Enabling a Cost-Effective Native Review

During collections, we discovered that the client had four distinct email systems in simultaneous use within its operations. In addition there was a fifth email format in evidence on the backup tapes.

These five formats included the two distinct UNIX email formats, Eudora, Lotus Notes, and Outlook email.

Control Discovery employed its e-discovery automation technology to sense and convert all of the email formats to Microsoft Outlook.

During this process, our technology preserved all relevant metadata.

In this same case, both our client's outside counsel and opposing counsel agreed to use the same online review provider.

Our client asked CDI to perform due diligence on the vendors online review solution, database capabilities, and security.

We also worked extensively with the vendors staff to help establish protocols by which each opposing party would:

• Waive conflicts, enabling the vendor to serve both parties.


• Allow the vendor to process data once for both parties.


• Establish completely isolated review databases.

Control Discovery processed hundreds of gigabytes of documents and email in formats compatible with the vendors process, providing the client with a cost-effective review solution.
