Tailoring a Solution to Remove Enterprise Software

In the collections process, Control Discovery found that the client had a distinctive set of software applications deployed on employee desktop and laptop computers.

Analysis of this 'baseline' configuration suggested a substantial opportunity to reduce document volumes.

Each software application was installed with several thousand pages of HTML and PDF documentation.

Although this third-party documentation was of a type normally considered responsive, outside counsel was not interested in it.

Control Discovery quickly customized its proprietary expert systems to sense each unique software application and remove the unnecessary files.

With a simple change and a quick call to outside counsel, CDI removed roughly 500,000 pages from a case that untimately had in excess of 8 million pages.

In this same case, Control Discovery also identified that a number of custodians had a personal tax preparation software package installed.

A call to the law department verified that the company human resources staff had distributed copies of this software as a gift to dozens of individual employees.

Many of those employees, predictably, did their taxes on their laptop computers -- where CDI was easily able to discover copies of their completed Federal and State tax forms.

Control Discovery implemented sensing technology to identify specific tax documents.

CDI then provided a list of these documents to outside counsel as an additional safeguard against overlooking such highly-sensitive information during the review process.
